S/V INTREPID II - Cape Dory Intrepid 40

My photo
Intrepid II is a Cape Dory Intrepid 40 sailboat, hull #2, designed by Chuck Paine and discovered by the Captain in Blue Hill Maine in 2006. The crew are Kelly (Captain) and Carol (Admiral and Blogger). In 2009 INTREPID II embarked on her West Coast journey from Victoria to San Francisco, the Baja Sur Peninsula and into the Sea of Cortez. In 2010/2011, we sailed from Guaymas, south to Bahia Banderas and back. In 2011/2012 we left Guaymas, headed south to La Paz, spent three weeks at anchor on our northward journey and rested on the hard in San Carlos. Her 4th, 5th and 6th seasons were Boat Projects related. Season 7 - an incredible amount of boat work - but no cruising. Season 8 - Tropical Storm Sergio toppled Intrepid II in San Carlos dry storage. A disappointing season of serious and costly repairs. Season 9 - continuing those repairs and still hopeful for cruising.

Channel Islands Harbor to Marina Del Rey - Oct. 16

We enjoyed the hospitality of the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club at a side slip just under the bridge into Oxnard.  A lovely club, friendly people and some Internet access; however, those of you who saw our SPOT message wondered why we were sleeping under a bridge!  We left the yacht club October 16th headed for Marina Del Rey, which was as close as we could get to visit with Kelly´s brother and sister in law, who live in a suburb of  Los Angeles.

The Pacific Mariners Yacht Club gave us three nights of reciprocal moorage.  We paid for an additional three nights to deal with ongoing electrical repairs. We enjoyed the hospitality of Dick and Susan for our first three evenings who provided a real bed, space to move and a warm, generous family ambiance.  Our visit was too short, due to the issues with the regulator, alternator, connections.

Kelly was able to take his brother and a friend out for a short sail and soon discovered his hopeful fix did not work.  Back to the navigation station drawing board.  However, it was time to keep moving south and we left Marina Del Rey for King Harbor Yacht Club at Redondo Beach,  arriving about 3 pm October 22nd.
